To the Remsen Community: |
|
On behalf of the American Cancer Society and the planning committee for the 2006 Remsen Relay For Life, I would like to thank everyone for their generosity and support. Over 500 participants spent the night walking the track at Remsen Central Schools to raise $44,000 for the American Cancer Society. All in all, 10 events across the Mohawk Valley this June raised over $920,000 for the fight against cancer.
After a moving opening ceremony where various community members reminded participants of the importance of their support in the fight against cancer, 30 survivors took to the track to walk the Survivor Lap, as friends and family cheered them on. Caregivers followed behind them and were honored for their dedication and support.
At nightfall, hundreds of candles were lit in honor of survivors and in memory of loved ones lost to cancer.
The teams did an amazing job with fundraising, especially the Determined Deputies. This team reached the “purple” level in the American Cancer Society’s national fundraising club, by raising $8,087.95.
Special thanks to our Flagship sponsors Kinney Drugs Foundation, CNYNorthCountry.com, WUTR/WFXV/WPNY, and WODZ Oldiez 96.1 FM (Regent Broadcasting), as well as our supporting sponsor AmeriGas in Alder Creek.
Finally, I would like to personally thank my committee members for the hours they spent planning this event. Without you, this would not have been possible.
All funds raised through Relay For Life will support the fight against cancer through research, education, advocacy and service. If you or someone you know is diagnosed, the American Cancer Society can help. Call 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit them at
